Sundays

Arrival

When you arrive, you can park on Jefferson to the north, or on 8th avenue. We also have access to a large parking lot behind the church building. See this map for more details (all the green sections are open for parking). People typically arrive around 9:45am to prepare for worship at 10am. Attire varies from flannels to business casual. Please reach out to Fr. Joe here with any questions or concerns about your visit.

Liturgy

We worship using the Book of Common Prayer, which contains our entire communion service and lasts about 90mins. Our music consists mostly of hymns from the 2017 REC hymnal as well as simplified Anglican chants. A short Order of Service is printed each week. It tells you what is next in the service, what page number to look at, and also contains some music not found in the hymnal—make sure to get one from the greeter at the door. We often kneel during the service, but those who are unable should feel free to sit.

Holy Communion

All visitors who have been baptized with water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—regardless of tradition—and who are presently trusting in the Lord Jesus are welcome to receive Holy Communion with us. If you haven’t been baptized, or if faith in Jesus does not characterize you at the moment, we still welcome you up to the front to receive a blessing and prayer. All baptized children are welcome at the Lord’s table to receive the Eucharist.

Children

Liturgy is for children. The sights, the sounds, the repetition of the prayers and songs, the rites of passage like confirmation and acolyte duties—all of this is crafted to help even the littlest among us participate in worship and learn the prayers of the Church. We see our Sunday liturgy as one key aspect of cultivating Christ in our lives. Every time a child is baptized, our church makes a commitment to “do all in our power to support these [young] persons and their parents in their life in Christ” (BCP 2019, pg. 165). We believe it’s important that kids are brought up seeing and taking part in the habits of the faith community. We also welcome what they have to teach us, since our Lord taught us, “Turn, and become like children” (Matthew 18:3). We have liturgy and coloring sheets for the kids to focus on during the sermon.

With the turn of 2024, we began the process of building the children’s Sunday School! Currently it takes place once per month, directly after the communion service. We aim for about 20-25 minutes of storytelling, crafts, and snacks. We hope to expand that to more Sundays as we have ability. All children’s volunteers have had background checks and child safety training, and all our ministry is under the oversight of the Bishop of Cascadia.
